Laptops
Will there be facilities to back up the files I create on my laptop?

Yes.  You have the capability to backup data to writable CDs and/or DVDs using the optical drive include with the laptop computer.  Or you can also use a USB flash memory.

How can I clean my laptop's screen?

The screen of your laptop is very sensitive. You should clean it only with laptop screen tissues that can be bought at any computer store. You should not clean the screen with any other tissues as this will damage the screen.

Printers
How to Setup the printer as default in Windows 9x / NT / 2000 / ME / XP?

If you have installed the printer and are getting an error message about the printer not being set as default or it is attempting to print to another device that is not installed. Click on Start / Settings / Printers, under printers if you do not see your printer listed refer to the above paragraph. If however the printer is listed in this window highlight the icon and click the icon with your right mouse button. This should open a dialog box which should have option for default printer. Ensure that this has a check by Set as Default like shown in the below example. If you do not see a check by Set as Default, click on Set as Default which will set the printer as default.

What is biometrics?

Biometrics is an automated technique of verifying the identity of an individual based on physiological or behavioral characteristics like Fingerprint, voice, ratina etc.It is a technology to match the unique characteristics of live individuals in real time against enrolled templates or records.
Is there any risk in using biometrics?

The biometrics technologies have varying degrees of intrusiveness but present no risk to user's health and safety.
Which biomerics techniques are in use nowadays?

List of techniques based on physiological characteristics of the individual incluses : Fingerprint Scanning, Facial Recognition, Retinal Scanning, Iris Identification, and Hand Geometry.

List of techniques based on behavioral characteristics of the individual includes: Voice Recognition Analysis, Keystroke Analysis, and Handwritten Signature Scan.

What is the most viable biometrics technique available today and why?

Fingerprint scanning is the most viable and established biometrics technique available today to verify the identity of a PC or network user. It is the easiest to use and the most economical to implement in user authentication techniques.
Is actual fingerprint of an individual is stored in the database?

Not exactly. Once the fingerprint is scanned, the image is converted into a mathematical template , which is a data representation of the fingerprint. This is what is stored and later compared against during verification. Furthermore, the data cannot be reconverted or reverse engineered back to the original fingerprint image. The fingerprint image itself is never stored for your security.
What are the actual mechanics of the template?

As a fingerprint is initially scanned, up to 90 minutia points are captured and run against an algorithm to create a 200 - 400 byte binary template vector map. It is this template that is stored and compared during the verification process.
Could someone use a photocopy of a registered user’s fingerprint to gain access into a biometrics system? Why?

No. The fingerprint verification module looks for a live three-dimensional scan of the fingerprint. In addition to the length and width of unique characteristics of the fingerprint, the verification module looks for the third dimension of depth which is determined by the shadow cast by these unique characteristics. There are still other devices that actually look for an electrical charge from a live fingerprint during the scanning process. The user must make contact with their scanning finger with the metal as well as the sensor platen of the scanner for a proper fingerprint scan.
